Two days ago I received a contributory mail from someone I tried to reach over two years ago: Lee McComish. He’s also very interested in collecting movie numbers. He couldn’t have joined the “project” at a better time. John, Herbert and I have started to hunt the errors from our lists!

Happy New Year… Thanks to the kind assistance of John Denton I learned that there’s actually two sets of movie numbers. The largest set (over 40,000 numbers) has no leading zero, whereas the other one (about 6,700 numbers) does. I am in the process of sorting things out. This will also diminish the number of double numbers from my list. Thanks John!

Some changes to the Happy Cube section: I updated the link to Jürgen Köller’s Site and made some references to stuff contributed by Willem Siemelink and Michael Kiermaier. Currently, there are 14,493 entries in the MPAA movie numbers list.

It’s been another few months since the last update to the News page. That doesn’t actually mean nothing changed at all. I have added many entries to my list of MPAA certificate numbers since. After Herbert Lotz (who still is a reliable source of numbers), another kind person from Germany has contributed some: Peter Fiser. On a side note, if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows, you may have noticed that the “Toine Online” text in the upper right corner is actually not in the MS Comic Sans font. It is a font inspired by the handwriting of one of the founding fathers of computing science, Edsger W. Dijkstra. Sadly, he passed away August 6th at his home in Nuenen.

Many interesting things these days. First of all, I’m looking into a suitable way to handle the large (500 KB) file of MPAA movie numbers. The fact that the French movie numbers are listed through XML and databinding is a step into the right direction. Thanks to a submission by Ryan Mead I also know now that movie number 00003 is “Baby Take a Bow (1934)”. Other XML issues are that I fixed an error in the way an XSL file was included as the source of an iframe. Apparently NNSysdev has a new address after @Home’s dismise. Juergen Koeller has created a link to my Happy Cube page. Added a link myself to Thomer M. Gil’s Happy Cube solver.

Seems there have not been very much updates to my site lately. But then again, it’s not a weblog. One part has been modified regularly, though I did not mention it on the main page, which is the MPAA movienumbers. Thanks to a recent large contribution of numbers by Herbert and Tobias Lotz, this list is growing even more rapidly.

I added the basics to a new example, demonstrating application of CSS to more or less HTML and XML. Smallish addition to the MPAA movie numbers, with many that were hard to read. Can can kind soul with access to movies like these, for instance the “Tom and Jerry” series and “The Three Stooges” verify and/or add to the list?

Using CSS really pays off! I changed the font (Arial 9pt) and the background color (#D0D0D0) for all of my my pages in an instant. To me it feels it’s much better readable now.

MPAA Movie numbers from WB are ready up to and including 1954 (todo: 1955-1964). The list of recent additions has been removed from the file (it’s long enough already). The Dutch section on Anton Philips has been extended with some info. I also added a page summarizing some of my hardware interest (see Topics|Various hardware projects). By the way, if you do not see the text “Toine Online” in Dijkstra’s handwriting, you probably entered this site through “http://members.chello.nl/~a.degreef”. For some reason only known by Chello (my ISP), this is mapped to “http://httpd.chello.nl/~a.degreef/”. I created the Dijkstra webfont (EOT) with the WEFT tool. Web fonts only work for the domain you specify. To see the font correctly, make sure to append “index.html” to the URL.

I’ve been very busy, so there have been no updates to the site in the last few months. There’s a major update on the list of movie numbers (that still requires more processing). An XML databind example (IE5+ only) is on the way. The counter is up-to-date with Netstat’s new standards. I still need to write down some interesting things about XML (including XMLHttp for the Pocket PC), make the site NN4 compatible etc.

I updated the section on XML for Windows CE. My company (Serendip-IT) is very interested in integrating portable devices (i.e. Pocket PC, Palm and others) into automation of the workflow chain. PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) with its built-in support for XML seems a likely candidate to fullfill our needs.

Welcome to my personal homepage, that I started today. Therefore, it’s still under construction. Pages look different (e.g. ugly) in Netscape Navigator from Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 and up). I started to implement a pagecontrol using 2 tables, a stylesheet and some JavaScript functions. Netscape support for stylesheets seems to differ, especially in terms of border & margin styles. As soon as more content is added, the pagecontrol will become more interesting…
